Valdobbiadene from Cornuda: The Prosecco Superiore Hills, 10 km North

Valdobbiadene is the town at the western end of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore hills, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2019. It's about 10 km north of Cornuda, across the Piave: around 14 minutes by car, or about 20 minutes on MOM bus 110, which runs roughly hourly on school-term weekdays. Valdobbiadene has no railway station, so Cornuda is a practical place to arrive by train.

What it is

Valdobbiadene is a town of about 9,900 people at the western end of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco hills (Wikipedia). It gives the wine half its name. On 7 July 2019, “Le Colline del Prosecco di Conegliano e Valdobbiadene” became a UNESCO World Heritage site (same source).

It’s in a different DOCG from Cornuda. Valdobbiadene makes Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore; Cornuda, across the Piave, is in Asolo Prosecco DOCG (disciplinare, Article 3).

What to see

  • Piazza Marconi: the central square. Two signed town walks of 4 km and 5 km start here, with GPX files on the town’s tourism site.
  • Villa dei Cedri (Via Piva 89): an early-19th-century villa with a large park open to the public (Wikipedia, Italian).
  • The Cartizze hill: vineyards in the hamlets of San Pietro di Barbozza, Santo Stefano and Saccol, a few minutes east of the town by car. See the Visit Prosecco guide to Cartizze.
  • The vineyards: the hills around the town are planted with Glera, the Prosecco grape (Wikipedia). To taste, book a winery visit ahead.

For the town and the hills in more depth, see the Visit Prosecco guide to Valdobbiadene.
