Asolo from Cornuda: The Hill Town 11 km West
Asolo is a small hill town about 11 km west of Cornuda, roughly 17 minutes by car. It sits in the same wine zone as Cornuda, Asolo Prosecco DOCG. People come for the old town, the Rocca fortress on Monte Ricco, the civic museum and the views. The museum and the Rocca open mostly at weekends. We found no direct bus from Cornuda: take the train to Montebelluna, then MOM bus 112.

What it is
Asolo is a small hill town in the province of Treviso, with about 8,900 people (Wikipedia, Italian). It’s one of the “Borghi più belli d’Italia”, and the poet Giosuè Carducci called it the “town of a hundred horizons” (same source).
For wine, it shares a zone with Cornuda: both are in Asolo Prosecco DOCG, a denomination since 2009 (Wikipedia). The production rules take in all of Cornuda and part of Asolo (disciplinare, Article 3). The Consorzio Vini Asolo Montello protects it. Asolo isn’t part of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG across the Piave.
What to see
- The Rocca: a fortress on Monte Ricco above the town, built between the late 12th and early 13th centuries (Wikipedia, Italian). Tickets €5 (Museo Civico di Asolo, checked 14 October 2026).
- Museo Civico: in the 15th-century Palazzo della Ragione, with archaeology, paintings and items linked to the actress Eleonora Duse. Tickets €7 (same source).
- Castello della Regina Cornaro: Caterina Cornaro, the former Queen of Cyprus, held Asolo from 1489. Her castle now houses the Teatro Eleonora Duse (Wikipedia).
- The Duomo: reworked by Giorgio Massari in 1747, with Lorenzo Lotto’s Assumption altarpiece inside (Wikipedia, Italian).
- Sant’Anna cemetery: Eleonora Duse is buried here (Wikipedia).
